HR Director – HR1. Who are you, what country do you come from and what is your job title?
Magnus Enckell, Finland, HR Director
2. What do you like most about your job?
Working with my incredibly skilled and smart coworkers. There is never a dull conversation or boring moment in our offices. I have huge respect for my colleagues for their professionalism and the humility show in their everyday interactions with me and each other.
3. What is the hardest part of your job?
Keeping pace with the rapid changes in our industry and the development of technology. Luckily, I don’t have to know everything😊.
4. What is the best thing about working in Nord Pool?
This is a workplace where we can truly make an impact on our society every day. Not only are the services we provide helping electricity flow, they also help improve welfare in the society at large. In our company every role has meaning.
The company also cares for its employees. There is a lot going on to improve work-life balance and to ensure that people can aim to maximize their potential. To what extent people grasp those opportunities is up to them, but I would say they are definitely there.
Oh, and of course the fact that there are so many different nationalities in the office. Currently there are 19 different nationalities in our office in Espoo and more than 30 in the whole company.
5. What is the most exciting challenge you have had during your time at Nord Pool?
We are on a journey of digital transformation. Helping my coworkers see how things can be done more effectively and with less hassle using tools that are available to us still excites me. Sometimes I get carried away by all the things we could do differently – fortunately I have good colleagues who know when to stop me!
6. What motivates you?
Learning. For me a good day is when I learn something new. I am fortunate to have a job where (almost) every day is a very good day.
7. What do you think about working in the energy sector?
I think the energy sector is a hidden gem for ambitious people who like to solve problems that will have a profound impact on the future of mankind. All too often the energy sector is associated only with power plants and grids when it is so much more. We are trying to enhance the image of the energy sector and build our employer brand in order to share the exciting things we are doing with all the talented people out there looking for the next challenge.
8. How would you describe your co-workers?
I can’t think of just one word to describe them. They are such a unique blend of enthusiasm, innovativeness, curiosity and creativity that it is impossible for me to put just one label on them.
The diversity of cultures and perspectives that comes together at the office just makes it so much fun to work here.
9. Do you have any advice for people thinking of applying to work for Nord Pool?
If you are looking for a workplace where you can make a positive impact on what the future looks like for all of us, then look no further. I believe the future is electric and we will play a major role in shaping it.
