The well-being of all employees is key at Nord Pool. As an employer we aim to increase the well-being and happiness of our staff in a variety of ways, through personnel benefits. The following elaborates on the benefits we offer and why we believe they make a difference.
Nord Pool's goal as an employer is to be the best workplace for the right employees. The energy industry is currently particularly hectic, driven by external forces in the market, which of course we cannot control. However, what we do is to support our employees to the best of our ability and as far as we can. Let's go through what methods we have found work best.

Leading for well-being
We recognize that we are all unique, with our own individual needs and that we have the right to get the support we require. This applies to adaptive leadership styles, discussion culture, learning and health services. We also encourage employees to listen to their own needs and suggest solutions.
How does it sound to have a monthly “How am I doing?” discussion with your team lead, Coaching Chat with HR and an All-hands catch-up with Management? These are all part of our leadership philosophy. In addition, there is a long list of tips and hints available, including topics such as; taking care of yourself, remote work and other well-being related subjects.

Family first-culture
We believe that we can create a more productive and meaningful work culture by testing the boundaries a little. We know that life happens and situations change, especially if you have small children or elderly relatives who need your care. For us this means that, for example, staying at home with a sick child or taking your elderly parent to the doctor is more than ok. We trust our employees to do their part and only ask them to log their hours for the sake of ensuring that nobody works too much. Everyone also has a Flex-time account they can use to balance their workload.

Personnel surveys to keep us up-to-date
To understand how we are doing in terms of well-being, we have chosen to ask directly and not just assume. We talk about how we are doing openly as part of everyday life, but we also conduct annual surveys of our staff. One survey tracks the well-being and satisfaction of our employees while another tracks how we are doing in terms of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Maintaining professionalism
We believe in continuous learning and self-development. At Nord Pool, as much as 10–20% of working time is allowed to be used for learning new skills or maintaining existing ones. We teach each other new skills, listen to industry podcasts and participate in webinars and other training, both in Finland and abroad. Learning is also supported by our own library, updated at regular intervals.
Budget for your own recovery

One concrete part of our benefit package is Edenred’s sports and culture benefit, which you can use in your free time for whatever supports your recovery and relaxation best, at a network of thousands of partners in Finland. One person relaxes at a cultural event, while another gets a massage and a third resets their brain by sweating at the gym. All equally valid choices that you can use to enhance your own well-being!

Occupational health keeps our company in good shape
We try our best to be supportive in maintaining health and preventing illness. But of course getting sick cannot be completely avoided. Therefore we offer help, even when everything is not going so well.
Our carefully thought-out occupational health services cover, among other things; basic doctor's visits in the event of the flu, regular health follow-up visits, tests when larger problems are suspected and other specialist medical services for work capacity consultation. Especially during the corona period, we emphasized that you could talk to an occupational health psychologist if you feel the slightest need to.
Trust is one of our basic values and even in cases of illness, we trust our team. If you are sick, self-notification is sufficient, if there is no urgent need to see a doctor. However, if your illness lasts longer, consulting a doctor is always recommended.

Mental well-being services - supporting everyday life
We want to support everyone's ability to cope, both at work and at home, before challenges pile up into problems. Life today is sometimes so hectic and full it’s no wonder someone may need the support of a professional to sort out what’s going on in their mind. As part of our benefits, we offer short-term psychotherapy services through our occupational health care provider Terveystalo.

Accident insurance – when something goes wrong
Sometimes things happen. Working time affects free time and vice versa. That's why our extensive accident insurance is not only limited to the workplace and business trips, but also covers damages that occur in your free time and abroad. We want our employees to be able to rehabilitate as quickly as possible and receive good care. That's in everyone's interest.

Comfortable workspaces keep the mind fresh
One concrete thing we use to increase enjoyment at work is the working environment. Our modern premises have been designed with comfort and individual working preferences in mind. In addition to the open office, we have several rooms of varying sizes suitable for slightly different purposes, plus a phone booth for private calls. Adjustable desks allow you to change your working position throughout the day. We also have a room where you can relax in a massage chair or stretch a little. If you want to do a full workout, we have a well-equipped gym available to you. There is also a sauna at your disposal.

Lunch allowance - you have to eat well to feel well
The brain needs good nutrition to be most productive. We encourage our employees to eat well and, with that in mind, we provide fresh fruit in the office. Our employees receive monthly lunch credit that they can use to eat at their favourite restaurants, or to enjoy lunch at the cantina in our office building.
For us, lunch is an important social moment. Instead of talking about work, it's great to be able to discuss other interests with colleagues and to vent your thoughts.

The company pays the phone bill
Although there are many electronic communication channels in use today, the good old telephone is still a necessary tool when we are in touch with our customers, partners and other work-related contacts. To make things simple, and for work and leisure calls to be handled with one phone, Nord Pool offers all its employees a phone benefit. In other words, the company pays for free-time calls and internet surfing. We will also pay for your home internet subscription should you need it for work.

Working from Home or the Office?
The COVID pandemic changed the way people work, on a global scale. From a fully at the office culture, we were forced to switch to a fully from home setup overnight. Due to our modern approach the transition was relatively painless for Nord Pool. We believe there is a lot of value in meeting in person to innovate, solve problems and form good collegial relationships. That’s why we have invested so much in our office space.
We have not set a definite number of days you must be in the office per week – we leave it to individual teams to decide what they need, to do their best work. What we do expect though is that you are present when the team needs you to be or when we have company gatherings or events. And of course, we’d love to see you in the office every day!

Make your dreams come true with holiday bonus
Paying a holiday bonus is not self-evident. At Nord Pool, we want to thank our employees and give them a little extra in the form of a holiday bonus. It allows you to do things on vacation that you dream of and which help you relax and recover. If you wish, you can also take your holiday bonus as time-off, so you can enjoy your holidays for longer!

Bonus for good work
At Nord Pool, growth and profits are made by the whole team. To share good results with our people, we have an established company-wide bonus system. This is based on Nord Pool achieving annual targets, set by our Board.
Personnel benefits are offered from the time an employee starts receiving their salary. Some of the benefits are taxable and we follow the relevant authorities' instructions for these.
