DevOps Engineer – Product, Development and Innovation1. Who are you, what country do you come from and what is your job title?
My name is Yevgeniy Polkhovski and I am from Kazakhstan. My title is DevOps engineer.
2. What does your job involve?
My job involves different types of tasks, from continuous integration and automating deployment projects to building, setting up test environments and monitoring how healthy the services and the system itself is. I also like coding, so every time when there is a chance to do a small feature or fix a bug I am happy to do that.
3. What do you like most about your job?
That every day is different. There are diverse areas you need to cover and there is quite a lot of learning involved. And I like that my work is visible and fast-paced, the day goes by very quickly!
4. What is the hardest part of your job?
Sometimes there are surprises and you need to react fast to solve problems. Especially when there are customers involved.
5. What is the best thing about working in Nord Pool? (can be several things)
The atmosphere is really positive and people are motivated. We work hard but still find time to joke around and are happy to work together.
I also like that Nord Pool is an international company with a diverse mix of cultures, so you can learn a lot simply by talking to people.
6. What is the most exciting challenge you have had during your time at Nord Pool?
For me, the majority of my tasks are quite exciting. I am not doing routine work so every task is a new challenge.
7. What motivates you?
I am motivated by a will to succeed, not only as an individual but as a team. I can see our goal and I know that my work contributes to the team’s success. Also, having motivated people around me is very important and our team lead is especially good at setting an example for us. We know what the final goal is and that is to deliver what the customers need.
8. What do you think about working in the energy sector?
I think the energy sector is very interesting but also complex, so there is constantly something to learn. There will always be some type of energy consumption, which gives the business a sense of stability. And if you have the right product that will serve the customers’ needs, you are in a good position.
9. How would you describe your co-workers?
Funny, motivated and cool. Honestly, it is like a holiday to come to work. Everyone is there to give a hand and help each other. The team I am on is quite new, but it seems like we are on the right track.
10. Do you have any advice for people thinking of applying to work for Nord Pool?
It is definitely a great place to work, with modern and good technologies as well as nice benefits such as an on-site gym.
